Repression
Support the repressed
Since 2020, tens of thousands of people have been repressed in Belarus. They came through arrests, torture, dismissals, and other types of persecution. Among them are hundreds of cultural figures and people having professions in the sphere of creativity.
At least 168 people of culture are currently being held in places of detention for political reasons (according to the Chronicle of Human Rights Violations in the Sphere of Culture for January 15-31, 2025, monitored by the Belarusian PEN).
In response to the need of the hour, the Belarusian Council for Culture has taken up the organization of a support service for repressed creators.
Assistance Group
During the period of the assistance group’s existence, the BCC received more than 1,600 applications from individuals seeking support. Over the past few months alone, more than 50 new applications have been registered.
About 750 consultations were held on relocation, employment, document support, obtaining support from other funds, and other aspects.
The group also provided financial assistance to more than 350 people, including payment of fines, legal services, and urgent expenses.
We helped obtain more than 430 visas and residence permits.
About 260 people, thanks to the Belarusian Council for Culture, received psychological consultations.
