The Belarusian Council for Culture continues to work on identifying priority areas and assessing the volume of necessary support for Belarusian culture’s various sectors. The new Roadmap for Supporting the Sector for 2025-2027 was the result of this activity.
We already have fruitful experience in advocating the entire sector at the international level. The ArtPower Belarus program, which we have been implementing together with the Danish Cultural Institute for the second year with financial assistance from the European Union, is an excellent confirmation of this. In 2024, together with partner cultural organizations and initiatives, with the support of the Joint Transitional Cabinet and the Coordination Council, we again organized the process of needs assessment of the Belarusian cultural sector for external assistance.
The Roadmap is a document that takes into account the key challenges facing the sector and explains the need for comprehensive support from European institutions.
Its key criteria are:
- emphasis on the role of culture in society;
- cultural rights;
- realization of the potential of actors and equal access to resources;
- coordination between organizations, building a holistic cultural policy;
- expanding dialogue and international contacts.
The Roadmap for Supporting Belarusian Culture for 2024–2027 is based on the survey results (held with the participation of about a hundred cultural figures), and its elaboration took into account dozens of organizations’ experiences and efforts.
This thorough work has already been presented at a high level in Brussels. The presentation with the participation of members of the Belarusian Council for Culture and the Office for National Revival team took place during the Senior Officials Meeting on EU assistance to democratic Belarus.
